Why Over and Around Us?

My favorite hymn is the source of my blog name.  It is a favorite for many reasons including but not limited to:

• was sung at my wedding by so many people that I love
• i sing it to put my kids to sleep
• it sums up how I feel about God, the natural world, and family
• it reminds me to be grateful
• my husband plays it “for me” when it’s his turn to play the organ at church
• Little Women (the movie)
• it touches my heart everytime I hear it or sing it–it is full of truth.

 For the beauty of the earth, for the beauty of the skies,

For the love which from our birth over and around us lies,

Lord of all, to Thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.

For the beauty of each hour of the day and of the night,

Hill and vale and tree and flower, sun and moon and stars so bright,

Lord of all to Thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.

For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child,

Friends on earth and friends above, for all gentle thought and mild,

Lord of all to Thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.
