I played a piece at conservatory years ago with this title (by the composer Shinohara)—very cool piece. Really fun to play. But this post is about another obsession around here lately—namely, two books.
Every night before bed the kids each get to choose a book. Sometimes more. But at least one each. John’s book-o-choice for the past two weeks has been the charming Bread and Jam for Frances. I have such strong and specific memories about this book from my own childhood. And similar ones are being recreated here: wanting to eat bread and jam throughout the day just like Frances and being enamored and whetted by the fabulous lunches Albert and, at the end, Frances are packed in their lunch boxes. It is just such a fabulous book. Even the 100th time through!
Wendy’s choice, also for about the last two weeks is Nice New Neighbors. Also a favorite of mine from childhood. It is hard to find now and even the link at Amazon doesn’t have an image. But I urge you to look for it. Lots to discuss with kids about making friends and getting along. But also: the illustrations (by Aliki)! They are just so…for lack of a more original word….CUTE! This makes both a great early reader and a nice read aloud. Even the 100th time through!

It’s got to be a great classic book when you still love it after the 100th time. I will definitely have to look for Nice New Neighbors next time we’re at the library. I’m always looking for great books to share with my kids. Thanks Sarah!
